Verbz & Mr Slipz - Radio Waves (Review)
Updated: Nov 30, 2020
Two years in the making and a massive 22 tracks deep, High Focus Records present to you "Radio Waves" the stellar new album by Verbz & Mr Slipz which features some fantastic guest verses from some of the hottest talent the UK has to offer.
Noteworthy Emcee/Producer combinations are hard to come by these days but Verbz and Mr Slipz are one of the best we have had in such a long, long time and their chemistry together genuinely is second to none. Slipz manages to weave such a rich tapestry of golden era boom bap composed of hard, smacking drums coupled with his unique ear for sampling. Croydon's crown prince Verbz gets better and more confident with every release, he is definitely one to watch going into 2021. You can't help but feel this guys potential is limitless and he reinforces this by how he confidently makes the art of emceeing seem so easy and effortless despite the intricate nature of his content and the detail that goes into how he constructs his bars.
While the skits do fit in with the overall theme of the album I can't help but feel that at times they can detract from the overall listening experience, not to say they're bad I just think they're not absolutely necessary to enjoy the album fully.
This is unquestionably the best album that's come out on High Focus in 2020 and if this ain't in your top 10 end of year lists then you need to check yourself. Solid bars, great guests (Melanin 9 has one of the best verses on the whole project) and such a high quality release over all, this really ain't far away from being the complete package.
